DC has announced it is adapting two of its greatest stories of all time into animated films, with the company announcing that a film is in the works called Watchmen and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths.

What do we know about the new DC Animated movies?

After a Justice League: Warworld screening at San Diego Comic-Con 2023, DC took to social media to announce the news. DC hasn’t released too much information on either project, however, it has been reported that the Watchmen film is rated R.

Also shared were two teaser images of the films, showing only the current titles, which you can check out below:

One of DC’s most iconic stories, Crisis on Infinite Earths revolves around a cosmic being called the Anti-Monitor who seeks to destroy every universe in the DC Multiverse. This forces the heroes of numerous worlds to come together and do whatever it takes to stop the Anti-Monitor and save the multiverse.

Since its release in 1985, it has often been touted as the story that popularized major crossovers in comics, and was recently the inspiration for the live-action event “Crisis on Infinite Earths” on The CW’s Arrowverse series.

Watchmen is also another iconic graphic novel from DC, having itself been adapted into a handful of previously successful versions. Watchmen tells the story of a group of vigilante heroes in an alternate reality reflecting the 1980s. Most recently, an HBO sequel series directed by Damon Lindelof was released in 2019, which won 11 Primetime Emmy Awards. A 2009 film by Zack Snyder caused controversy when it was released, but has since stood as one of the most faithful comic book adaptations into a film.
