Alan Arkin has died, Little Miss Sunshine actor turned 89

Alan Arkinthe award-winning actor, who starred in films such as Little Miss Sunshine and Argo, has passed away at the age of 89.

Alan Arkinthe award-winning actor, who starred in films such as Little Miss Sunshine and Argo, has passed away at the age of 89.

The actor was famous for many roles in his career which started in the 1950s. He won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as the rude grandfather Edwin Hoover in the 2006 tragic comedy road film Little Miss Sunshine. Arkin has also appeared in films such as Edward Scissorhands, Argo, Gattaca, The Muppets and Marley & Me.

His sons Adam, Matthew and Anthony entered opinion to her father’s death. “Our father was a uniquely talented force of nature, both as an artist and as a person,” they said. “As a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was cherished and we will miss him dearly.”

Arkin’s career has spanned decades, first earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in 1966 for his comedy The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming. Shortly thereafter, he played a deaf-mute in The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, which earned him another Oscar nomination. He ventured into directing with the 1971 film Little Murders.

His career continued with many successful films. After winning an Oscar for Little Miss Sunshine, he was nominated again a few years later for his role as Lester Siegel in Argo. He recently starred in the Netflix series The Kominsky Method opposite Michael Douglas, with his most recent film role being the voice of Wild Knuckles in the 2022 film Minions: The Rise of Gru.
