The SAG-AFTRA actors are on strike may last until 2024.
The Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild strike together for the first time since 1960. Many film and television productions are put on hold because actors can no longer appear in productions or promote their work. With writers and actors not working, Hollywood has largely gone on hiatus and will continue to do so until the strike is over.
SAG chief negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland believes it could continue into next year. “I wouldn’t rule out January or February,” Crabtree-Ireland said says. “Everyone should work hard to make sure that doesn’t happen, but the only way to prevent that is to find a way to a fair deal.” And we will not compromise on the core principles of fairness that our employees fight for.”
When did the actors’ strike begin?
The strike began on July 14, 2023, as actors campaigned for better residual wages from streaming services and protection from the growth of AI in the industry.
