Is the SAG on strike?
SAG-AFTRA is currently on strike, with many actors campaigning for better pay and protection from the continued rise of AI. Due to a current dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), members are not permitted to appear at anything with an AMPTP producer affiliated.
Recently, SAG-AFTRA gave permission for 39 independent productions to film afterwards during the strike affirmative they were not bound to the AMPTP. The list includes two A24 films: Mother Mary, starring Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel, and Death of a Unicorn, starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega. This is because A24 is not connected to the AMPTP.
Other films on the list include Flight Risk starring Mark Wahlberg directed by Mel Gibson, The Rivals of Amziah King starring Matthew McConaughey, Bride Hard starring Rebel Wilson, Dust Bunny starring Mads Mikkelsen and Sigourney Weaver as well the TV series The Chosen. about the life of Jesus Christ.
Filming has completed on some of the approved projects, but exceptions are needed to allow the actors to advertise.
